Spice Is The Variety Of Life

BY HEALTHY EATING

There has been an perception for some time that nutritious food is tasteless, bland and even off-putting. We all know a salad is better for us than a hamburger so we're going for the burger because it's got more flavor – or so the idea goes anyway. But there is no justification for that to be the case. Every food will become more interesting, with the addition of a little spice.

There will still be people keen to point out that while a grilled chicken breast may contain less calories from a fried chicken outlet than a family container, it doesn't taste as good. And while that's an opinion issue, the fact of the matter is that opinions matter.

However, if you marinate the chicken breast with herbs and spices, the taste will change dramatically, and be much more enjoyable.

In your sandwiches, you can get bored with eating tuna salad while tuna is far from tasteless. But if you add a little seasoning when you make the tuna mix, you can find that there are a variety of different tastes in the way of calories that add very little, if anything. Paprika, pepper, cayenne ...... the list continues. The addition of some sliced jalapenos, if you have the appetite for them, will make things even more interesting. And the bottles of sauce on supermarket shelves these days go beyond steak sauce and ketchup – additions such as piri-piri and teriyaki are a welcome break from the usual.
